Passing through the valley
I used to look at storm clouds forming on the horizon and imagine that might be what mountains looked like. On long drives through the Minnesota countryside you would sometimes see these storms forming - wooded plantations along the highways obscured the view of the distant sky for intervals. The passing scenery and the distant atmospheric backdrop held my imagination captive, and I would watch intently from the back seat of the car while my mind wandered across the dells low, expansive swell of the land. The floor of the valley is only what I know, and the walls of the valley are what I can dream of beyond my reach in both the physical landscape and in the passage of time.
